If I remember correctly, someone here on AA said Panurgy had done that successfully to a MS750. I am more than satisfied with the 750GB hard drive on the MS750. Since the processor is limited to 16/44.1 the FLAC file sizes aren't huge like the hi-res files and DSD, so a 750GB hard drive is sufficient for my current CD library and then some. I am very happy to have the MS750 playing and recording once again. Even though I never used its internal DAC, always an external one, I have relied on the MS750 for four and a half years as a major source component in my living room system and really didn't want to lose it. I am thrilled to have it playing music again.
That would be me. The s/w has a 1 tb limitation. It worked great!

I had them install a 1TB drive in mine which included a SATA to IDE adapter.

Philip.......Thanks for the information. I knew I had read about it, I just could not remember whose music server had been upgraded to 1TB.

Default MS750 hard drive

Shouldn't it be possible to install a solid state drive in the MS750? Then there are no moving parts to wear out.

In the case of SSDs performance can degrade significantly over time if the OS treats them as regular HDDs in terms of file writes, deletes, etc. The file system in the MS750 is very outdated.

Hi all, interesting reading on the power supply issue, etc...

I have a couple of questions if any of you are more enlightened than me!! First, is there some kind of a unique identifier that is written to the hard drive on there's units. I have two, and each one boots up fine with its respective hard drive, but each one will not if the drives are swapped. Odd...

Secondly has anyone used the utility to recreate all the cover art? It's in the hidden menu. It doesn't seem to be working and I'm wondering if it has something to do with some of the changes in the disk lookup servers I have read about here.

Many thanks!

Wayne

I'm pulling my MS300 out of storage after a couple moves and a remodel.

As I recall, it was acting a little temperamental at last use (mostly the tray action) but a refresh with new HD and OS might make sense.

Since this thread is a few years old, I'm wondering if there are current tech advancements that make sense.

Have SSDs become a viable upgrade?
Who makes a legit HD to replace the original?
Does sending it to Panurgy make sense, economically? Are they still the 'one'?

Is there access to a golden disk, or other online file out there, or is the platform too obsolete to be investing any energy into?

Thanks,
Walt

Default MS750 is back in business

I don’t think there’s new firmware to make HD upgrades any easier. A specific HD is required, although some have successfully gotten other HDs to work and as I recall, there’s one member who got an SSD to work. If you need the Golden CD, I may be able to point you in the right direction...send me a pm. You need to be a subscriber to PM, but it’s a no-brainer to subscribe considering all this great site brings you!
