^^ Dean, wow congrats!
question, where can I find a specific tweeter replacement on my 52SE? do you have a link of catalogs? was there a soldering needed or just clamping? Thanks

Anyway, the Esotar2 tweeters I bought came from the Dynaudio Automotive line. You can find info about that at the Dynaudio website. The cables clamp to the drivers. I did not have to do any soldering.

It would have been awesome Dean if you were able to take pictures on each step of the process. It would have been Dyn Tweet Replacement 101. Enjoy your s3.4 mk2.

Be careful/mindful of strong magnetism at all steps. Note: cables with black stripe are hot, and attach to driver lead with label (it is marked +). The clips have a locking tab you have to push to get them released from the driver. 0) remove faceplates from E110 Esotar2 drivers, disconnect speakers from amp For each speaker 1) remove lower woofer and unclip leads (not soldered), set aside 2) remove tweeter plate and unclip leads 3) remove Esotec from faceplate 4) attach Esotar2 to faceplate 5) reattach tweeter leads, reinstall tweeter 6) reattach woofer leads, reinstall woofer I did this all while the speaker was standing in place. Just support the woofers from falling out as you loosen the retaining bolts. The tweeter plates needed to be pushed out from behind. I guess it's safer to lay the speakers on their back, but that seemed more risk of cabinet damage to me, and I didn't want to bother marking position on my rug.

Oh my gosh those speakers make me drool with envy. Does anyone know why Dynaudio chooses to use two tweeters? I'm an amateur DIY'er and everything I know about building speakers says this is going to cause lobbing. Even more so with the distance between the two bass/midrange drivers.
I'm sure they have worked around this somehow and this speaker sounds awesome. Wish I could afford something like those. |

Hi. What is the speaker cable used for your speaker?

I would create a new topic, but unfortunatly i can't yet, so i will post my doubts here.
I own a Special 25 and i intend to move to Floorstand. I begin searching for a new speaker and i recognize that i would need to cange amplification as well for a good system balance (even if i keep the Special 25, i would need to get a better amp). Then i got to a good deal with a Focus 600xd, but i have some concerns regarding the constrain of having a DAC fixed to speaker. I mean, i wont be abel to update the DAC further on with new technologies. I guess this is the drawnback of having this type of speakers. So i would like to hear more opinions on that matter. What you have to say about the Focus XD, do you think it will be old tech in a couple of years (2-3 years)? I plan on using basicaly Tidal with it, and movies, do you think i will be well served for Tidal with it or it is better to invest in a better amplification and source? I have tested Gryphon Diablo at home, and i would be very happy with it, but with the same money i can switch the speaker to Focus xd, so what would be better, buying a Diablo and staying with Special 25 or go to the Focus 600xd? Best regards, Eduardo. |

I'm new here. Hope I'm posting this in the right place.
Just bought some Dynaudio Excite x16 second hand. Happy with the sound but didn't realise until I tracked the serial numbers to the shop that the seller mentioned they came from originally, that they are 10 years old. Now I am wondering purely about the ferrofluid in the tweeters. Yes they still sound great at the moment, but how long have I got? Should I sell them while they're still good and buy brand new Dynaudios like I almost did? I know there must be countless speakers out there over 20-something years old with the ferrofluid still not congealed, but I'm after opinions about the x16s or other even older Dynaudio products and how long I should expect the tweeters to function as they should. I'm really hoping to hear about lots of old speakers where this is not an issue, if that's not just wishful thinking! Thanks Keir |

Pity this thread is a bit sleepy. Would be great for the more easy questions and answers, like:
Is there someone who has left after a time the Dynaudio speakers for another brand? My (mostly) better half is hating as long I own them, my Confidence C2's because of their looks. Despite the fact I like these a lot sonically speaking, I'm now a bit looking to one of the very recent Elac Concentro's (no idea however about the synergy with my audio set) Someone else?

The 72SE were solid performers. Not a trace of harshness or a sour note. A bit laid back in combination with McIntosh mc501’s I had at the time but ultra enjoyable for extended listening sessions. |
