I DIY'ed my own speaker cables, love them and have had them for a few years now.

The problem is, while the cables are the same it's the loudspeakers that keep changing. Ha!

The insulation and plastic industries are getting smarter all the time.
While the copper will last forever, pre 1970 insulation is questionable.

If you don't run over them with a tractor& plow you should be ok for quite some time.
