Doing my homework (see Mahler thread)

Mahler - Symphony No. 1
Orchestra Sinfonica di Torino della Rai, Rafael Kubelik
via Qobuz

This is an old live recording, with plenty of coughing.
The overall sound is muffled.
But I kept listening till the end, because the performance was captivating enough to do so.

My first purchase and playback (24 bit/96k) of 2019 and what a disappointment. Let's just say that the artistic quality of the cover matches that of the music. I normally like Goss' music, but not this time. It is, to be sure, better than Houghton's, but that isn't saying much.

I'm inspired by some recent posts about string quartets, so have pulled out my favorite set, highly recommended...

^^^^^I'm joining you with more chamber music.

I just heard part of this disc on the radio, and I loved the clarity of the (period) instruments.
It is indeed a nice recording with very agreeable performances, and it sounds so much better on our living room system.

Mozart - Flute and Oboe Quartets

Comparing the album above with an older recording, from the brothers Kuijken and Lucy van Dael:

Mozart - Flute Quartets
via Qobuz

I think I prefer this one.
Although the recording is more than 35 years old, it is very decent.
And the playing draws me just that little bit more into the music.

I listened halfway through this album, but decided to leave it at that.
Well played, beautifully recorded, but the music doesn't touch me.

W.A. Mozart - Sonatas for four hands
Marie & Veronica Kuijken
Qobuz 24/96

It seems that one sonata (KV 448) helps against epilepsy...
Anyway, this is a good album!
I like these pieces on fortepiano.
