Default Mozart: Complete Symphonies

Playing early symphonies (disc 4: #10, #12-15) from this 11-disc set today...

Mozart: Complete Symphonies
The English Concert, Trevor Pinnock

Miraculous music from a teenage prodigy. I've talked about this set before, but again here we have superb playing by the The English Concert extremely well captured by a rich Archiv recording.

That's so odd, isn't it. Who are these people not listening to Haydn?

Pal of Mozart, teacher of Beethoven.
Foundational composer of the Classical era.
Inventor of the string quartet.
A mere 106 Symphonies,
Overtures, Divertimenti, Marches
Dances, Concertos, Masses,
Operas, Canons and Cantatas
and much more.

We should have a Haydn day.

Of course, I think a Haydn day would only be right!

Default Bach, C P E: Keyboard Concertos

This morning I'm enjoying three harpsichord concerti...

Bach, C P E:
Concerto in G minor, H.409 (W.6)
Concerto in A major, H.411 (W.8)
Concerto in D major, H.421 (W.18)
Miklós Spányi (harpsichord)
Concerto Armonico, Péter Szüts

Excellent music vividly recorded by BIS. These are world premiere recordings for compositions that took too long to get a place on the catalog.

Andrés Orozco-Estrada / hr_Sinfonieorchester (Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra)
Igor Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring; The Firebird (Suite 1919)

Just wonderful, a truly terrific experience. I have never heard Spring so determined!

The Firebird soars here!

The sound is audiophile quality which serves to enhance the performance.

This is a winner.

I am just loving this label, PENTATONE.

Disc #31 of 50 features

Rebel, J-F: Les Élémens
Destouches, A: Les Eléments
The Academy of Ancient Music, Christopher Hogwood

This is one of the most interesting finds in the box. Les Élémens is a ballet, in which Rebel portrays each of the four elements during the chaotic, confusing creation of the world. Very lively music that I had not heard before. A welcome addition to the library. The playing by the AAM suits the music and the recorded sound from 1978 is very satisfying.
