It's a sinking ship. Physical video media will go down like the Titanic in no time. Streaming is king and it is here to stay. https://variety.com/2018/digital/new...17-1202658638/

.
Thanks for the advice guys. I was able to find and purchase a new Oppo UDP-205. XLR output is the perfect solution for my C2200 pre. Should be here tomorrow . |

So I've decided to go the plex route with a DS918+ with 40Tb to hold all of my blu-ray. It will take some time to rip but after that it will be more practical. |

There is an interesting product from Zappiti - it is a NAS with a BluRay drive that can rip BDs (including UHD/FHD) without using a PC.

Hopefully those Zappiti products are not on the expensive side.
It seems like it could be a risk purchasing and spending time ripping only to find they are out of business the next year. Bucking the general trend of consumers is always risk inherent. Oppo is a prime example. Magnitudes larger than Zappiti but they pulled the plug on a Blu-ray player and the market for a product like Zappiti is much smaller. |

New product - I just got their UHD 4K HDR streamers and am amazed at the video quality of the streaming. Support has been good. It is a French company and their media catalogue system is kinda like Roon for video.

Wow...you guys were spot on with the Oppo 205 player. Excellent picture and sound quality. Even with watching 15 year old home family videos, in standard definition...upscaling is outstanding. SD older movies seem to have new life again. BR is so lifelike... Haven't watch UD yet, how much better can it get? Have to be getting close to the point of diminishing returns? What are some of the better 4k movies or band/music videos? Must have 4k disc's? (not streaming, different project) Planet Earth 4k? . |

Happy to have helped.
Planet Earth is an excellent UHD display. My other reference titles include Passengers, Oblivion for video and for audio (Atmos), Mission Impossible Fallout, any of the Transformers movies On my displays I see a big jump in going to UHD. In Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (dont judge me), the IMAX forest scene where Optimus goes against all the Decepticons... with the FullHD BD, the trees look like trees, but on the UHD BD you can make out individual leaves. ps at some point you may want to talk to Ivan about moving on from the MX135. You wont get UHD BD with HDR passed through the MX135 to the TV and you wont get all the fancy new immersive 3D audio formats in most UHD titles.
