I enjoyed the Black Mirror series. Dystopian, darkish plots that often make you think as to where our civilization is headed and leaving little doubt much of it will come true in the future.

Its, IMHO, amazing...takes a few episodes to get into it, just a like a good book does. Based on the Longmire mystery novels by Craig Johnson. While it is filmed in New Mexico, it is set in the fictional town of Durant, Wyoming. Walt Longmire is the sheriff of Absaroka County, a fictional county in Wyoming named after the Absaroka mountain range. A lot of cultural themes around native Americans, and the cinematography is exceptional. IMO, the character development is exceptionally rich. The supporting cast of Katee Sackhoff as "Vic", Bailey Chase as Branch Connelly, Adam Bartley as "The Ferg", his deputies, Lou Diamond Philips as Walt's childhood friend, Henry Standing Bear, Cassidy Freeman as Cady, his attorney daughter, A Martinez as Jacob Nighthorse, and Zahn McClarnon as Matthias, the "sheriff" for the "Res" contrbute a LOT to the very rich character development in this series. I love all these characters...

Just as a teaser, Walt, the sheriff, finds out in the first episode that his deputy, Branch Connelly, is running against him in an upcoming county election. It just gets better from there....

Me too. I care about character development. Some shows and movies don't. I was struck by the movie Dunkirk, which has very little character development. While the movie has some other great qualities, it is something that I missed.

Longmire spends a great deal of time shaping the characters. You pretty much feel like you know them. I wish I knew Walt! When I grow up, I want to be like him.

I agree completely. I think what makes Longmire so appealing is the richness of the character development.

It just occurred to me while watching some of this season's episodes that all of the main characters have some rather deep character flaws that they are struggling with...with the exception of The Ferg and Matthias. Matthias, in particular, seems to be the most well-adjusted of all of them, interestingly. I love Zahn McClarnon's portrayal of him.

Something I learned from reading some of Craig Johnson's novels is that both Walt and Henry served in combat in Vietnam, and Henry, in particular, was quite the bad*ss in combat (if memory serves, he was an Army Ranger?). This may be partly why we see Henry always working out and as fit as he is.

Totally agree on Mathias. On the ferg... Did you notice how much he grew personally and professionally over the years? He has his own struggles with fear, in the shadow of his fearless mentor, Walt.

Yes, that was what is great about Ferg; Walt helped him to develop to his full potential; he's become quite a good detective. I think originally he was a bit intimidated by Branch (which is understandable). Vic is a pretty strong role-model as well; I like Mathias' nickname for her: "Philly".

Haven’t seen longmire, but am loving godless. Per the previous poster, one episode at a time to take it all in slowly. Will move to longmire next.
