You are correct! The Gungnir was indeed the multibit version, followed by Yggdrasil.

Nope, just an email letting me know it arrived and that they’ll send another email when they ship it back to me.

**update**

They just now sent an email letting me know it’s done. Woot!

Well, on Tuesday, I received my updated Gumby with the Unison USB board, which replaces the venerable Gen 5 USB. Tuesday night I fed it a constant stream of various file types, bit rates and bit depths for 48 hours.

Yesterday I gave it a listen and again this morning. I have to say, I’m disappointed in what I hear. It seems a bit harsh, bright, & sibilant. Voices especially. I don’t know if it’s the USB hardware itself or the firmware they updated to accommodate the new Unison board. Either way, I’m going to let it run a few more days and reevaluate. If it doesn’t improve, I’ll go back to the Gen 5. Bummer.

Give it 200 hours and see what you think. It sounds exactly like a number of digital components I've implemented in the last year at 48 hours of burn in, including the Sonore Optical Module and the EtherREGEN.

I’ve given it over 120 hours burn in. It’s still harsh, sibilant, and I’m actually hearing distortion. Frustrating to say the least.

I contacted Schiit to see if I can simply plug in the old Gen 5 usb card. No bueno. The new firmware doesn’t support the Gen 5 card.

They gave me an RA to return it back to the old firmware and reinstall my Gen 5 USB card. I didn’t push for a refund of the Unison upgrade charge, but I’ll pursue that once I get the DAC back.

Bummer. I would change the RA to see if they can test the unit and find the root cause of the distortion. Schiit happens in shipping and on the bench, so it might not be the Unison card. I was very happy I didn’t have to ship my Yggdrasil back.

There is a small sticker on the back that will say ‘Gen 5 USB’ or ‘Unison USB’.
