Thanks, sounds like the pairing was very good together. Pretty much same amps and preamp I have. They were already on my listen to again list this moves them up to sooner.

If I were on that journey (and I never will be) I would add the Dynaudio Confidence C4 Signature. At $22K they will likely stand up to many $30K speakers.

Focal speakers are fantastic with McIntosh, the spaciousness they create is very nice, the harmonics at the upper tweeter is actually something I've never heard with any other speaker brand. They do extremely well, if not the best, in piano pieces, lounge music, jazz. Not to say they don't do well with the others, but when these speakers are not run in, use those genres, it will help. After running them in, they have real solid bass, rich mids and amazing highs. Not grainy- in the Sasha vs Scala shoot out i heard with mc2301 & c2300 on a number of piano based pieces. The bass was better defined, although we played gentle bass pieces with vocals, and much lower volume, like Jennifer Warnes' Bird on a Wire. Sent from my iPhone using A.Aficionado |
