It was a breakout show for United Home Audio and reel to reel tape!
The room at the Flamingo was buzzing with tape enthusiasts, at times
there were 2 and 3 people lined up to talk to Greg about tape decks, Master Tapes, and recording with the UHA decks. UHA has shown tape decks at CES for three years, but this one was different, the enthusiasm for R2R shocked everyone! Often there was standing room only when "tape guys" filled the room to listen to the latest Master Tapes.

As a result of the new grass roots enthusiasm they experienced at T.H.E. Show, new groups have now committed to offering their music library for sale on Master Tape. Our friend Jan-Eric Persson of Opus3 Records was bringing in his distributors from all over the world to hear his demo tape on the UHA decks. Paul Stubblebine of The Tape Project said, with the collective help of a growing group of hard core enthusiasts, it is apparent this movement is gaining steam! Thanks to our buddy Tom Compagna with Quintessence Acoustics, the Shadow speakers had a very textured natural sound along with the PBN Electronics.
The QUINTESSENCE design team lead by T.S. Campagna, President, and Peter Noerbaek* set forth to design a speaker comparable to the critically acclaimed STEALTH (Quintessence Acoustics Flag Ship Product) but at a more accessible price point.
Innovative ideas have been incorporated into the circuit topologies in the SHADOW'S crossover, which have been optimized using the latest in computer software and measuring equipment, including FFT. These circuits achieve a complete seamless integration between all drivers. They include a phase optimized band-pass for the 5 1/4" dual voice coil mid-range drivers and a special parallel trap circuit in the tweeter section for an unparalleled transparency and openness in the critical high frequency range.

Offers Analogue Copies from our original Analogue Masters

Over many years we have from time to time been asked if we can offer Analogue Tape Copies. At the end of last year we decided to start offering Analogue Tape Copies and our first copies were sold in Sweden and the response was overwhelming!

Opus 3 Records recorded analogue longer than most Audiophile Labels, and it was not until SACD was launched in year 2000, that we started to record digital. Our last analogue recording was Eric Bibb, "Just Like Love", SACD 22002

All in all, we have 50 albums recorded analogue!

When Opus 3 Records creates an Analogue Tape Copy, it is always a One to One Copy where for example no analogue sub-master is in between - we want to make it as good as possible, with no added distortion, noise and wowand flutter etc.

The drawback to this process is that it takes a lot of time, because all the tracks have to be copied one by one which is the reason while our Analogue Tape prices might be a little higher than other companies. Because of the way we do this, we will also have to limit the number of Analogue Tape Copies created per release to a maximum of 50 pieces. The upside to this process is that you are guaranteed to have the best sounding Analogue Tape Copy!

Price is $ 450.00 USD for each Analogue Tape Copy.

Jonathan has a reservoir of jazz master tapes recorded over the last 40 years. Some of it avant and some traditional but all of it with a different bent than the jazz commonly put out on audiophile vinyl and tape, which publications have largely been hard bop (jazz infused with blues, gospel and the spirit of the church which began approximately in the mid 1950s and which was carried for the most part through the 1960s and popularized on the Blue Note label). Hence the tapes will offer a different style of jazz than has come out on vinyl
For instance early Clare Fischer (a brilliant musician who on the side arranged for Prince and other pop artists to feed his family), Gary Peacock (Keith Jarretts bassist), Dennis Budmir (a brilliant young guitarist), Warne Marsh (one of the most brilliant improvisors in the history of jazz) and many others.

Cost will be $150.00 for each tape. And the first tape will become available as early as June. Clare Fischer's magnum Opus, Extension, will probably be the first release due to the importance of the work and his recent passing.

The master tape duplicates you receive, all 15-ips 2-track, will be as close as possible to the master tape and when played in a fine system, will bring you closer to the live musical event and allow you to experience the raw emotion in the music.

This has grown from a love of classical music and analogue vinyl sound. The live sound of beautiful Cremonese string instruments have the ability to move our hearts & emotions. To capture a sound as close to that live event has been the focus of much experimentation with components and parts. To accomplish this, we have kept the signal path as simple and direct as possible - using only 2 microphones and removing as many contact points in the tape recorder as possible. Silver wiring and silver wound transformers are used exclusively throughout the whole recording chain for it's uncanny ability to produce the most detailed and refined sound. These recordings are basically "live" as each movement is a whole take. There is no signal processing or added reverb - to keep the signal as pure as possible. The microphone preamplifier is a custom design based on the direct heating triode tube WE300B with an WE437A input tube. We feel these Western Electric tubes present the most natural sound character with beautiful timbres throughout the audio range.
