The 30w stereo gets pretty damn warm and for a lot of listening I'd probably never want to go above the 60s or the 100s unless you live somewhere very cold and just want to use them as heaters. 60 monos would be incredible!

my x250.5 puts is 300W. The xa60.8 are 200 each, so 400 total. Only 100w more...

No speaker that I know of 'needs' 250 watts to function and while the small amount of output you speak of is completely normal what you fail to realize is the transient peaks (wide dynamics of Orchestral recordings for example) demand far greater than your '4.5 watts' !

Remember that dbl'ing output power roughly equates only to a 3 db gain, whereas the ability to 'dbl down' from 8 to 4 ohms, IMO, is a important indicator relative the amplifiers stability and load handling capability.

vs. burning through a KW/hour? Yeah, not worth it to me for a little extra "grip" when I listen at 1w. If you have the extra money for the gear, the electricity, and the A/C go for it... IMO if dynamics are that important to you then just look for more efficient speakers.

Even the 30w Class-A puts out 130w into 8 ohms and 190w into 4 ohms before clipping. They are very conservatively rated amps:
