Default Opinions on upgrading a Mac system

My dad is renewing his old system and he wants to have a few feedback on his different options.

He's already changed his preamp to a C2600 and added a mct500.

His current amp is the mc 402 and he's thinking of moving to the mc462.

The speakers are Proac D38 and he's now thinking about the Sonus Amati Tradition.

Finally, he has Van Den Hul cables. Why would be an upgrade for him? Would WW Silver Eclipse be one or does the system deserve something else?

How do you think the upgrade would be compared to what he has already and how would you prioritise it?

Sounds like a substantial upgrade. I would think that the Amati Tradition would be a significant improvement from the Proac. I haven’t heard the Proac but the Amati Tradition is a wonderful sounding and beautiful looking speaker. If on a budget, your dads current mc402 could work for the time being. WW silver eclipse are great cables and you can’t go wrong with them. I have seen lots of Mac owners are using these and personally love mine.

Am in agreement that speakers could make the biggest difference as the 'next step'. However, your father could be pleasantly surprised at just how much improvement can be had with WW cable upgrades. I've been moving from Eclipse Silver to Platinum & Gold. The improvement was not subtle in my system. Talk to Ivan.

I imagine that the impact on your wallet was substantial though

I'm fully equipped in Eclipse Silver myself (all through Ivan) and I've been pushing him in that direction. I think he needs to set a budget and take it from there on cables.

In short, speaker would be a substantial upgrade followed by cables and finally his amp can do the deal for the time being.

Like the guy in the car insurance ad, just tossed my wallet over the rail behind me (where Ivan was standing ).

Seriously........... while speakers are likely to make the biggest 'change', the improvement in sound can be substantial (equivalent to the lightening of ones wallet? ) with IC/cables.

The MC402 still anchors my system.

Some “upgrades” are unnecessary.

I was on the fence about going to MC601s and was pleased when a Mcintosh employee told me that the 402 is still a beast and the difference to 601s would be “subtle”.
