My JL audio f112 arrived today

None of the pictures on the internet do these subs justice. They are absolutely stunning in fit and finish. And bigger than they look in the pics.

Ive run A.R.O, and spent 45 minutes with a couple of setup cd's and music cd's to get to a pretty well balanced setup(by ear) considering so little time spent tweaking

I have the sub setup perpendicular to my speakers, to the right of my right speaker, firing across the front.

Very pleased so far, and impressed with the crossover on the sub. It doesn't let unwanted high(er) frequency information through like every other sub ive used.

Default F112s and PS Audio Duet Question

Hello-
New to this forum and have a question regarding my F112s and an issue I'm having with them plugged into PS Audio Duet power protection/conditioner. A little background...

I have dual F112s, powered by WW SE 5.2 (2M) cables (got this tip from the folks on this thread ). I run the left side sub with the ARO defeat "on" (so the light is red). I leave the power "on" to both at all times. The subs are on separate outlets. My sub cables are Cardas Crosslink, 5M (RCA). The house is 17 years old, in a NW suburb of Chicago.

I have each sub plugged into a PS Audio Duet, which are connected to the wall outlet by a Nordost Shiva power cable. Nothing else is plugged into the Duet. The Duets are on wood blocks, isolated from the carpet floor and other cables (speaker, power, etc.).

My Integra DHC 80.2, Outlaw amps, OPPO BDP-83, and Samsung plasma display are on a different outlet than the subs (all connected to a PS Audio AV Power Center 5000). The AV 5000 is connected to the wall outlet with a PS Audio AC-12 (3M) power cable.

The problem I'm having is that after a few days (sometimes even a day), the left side sub will have turned off and then back on (the ARO defeat red light is off, only the green power light is on). I had this happen during a movie, too (the pop sound of the sub turning off).

Thinking it might be the Nordost power cables, I connected the Duet to the wall outlet with the “stock” power cables, and it still happens.

I have narrowed it down to the Duet, as with both subs plugged directly into the wall outlet, the sub does not power off (the red light stays on). To further test my hypothesis, I turned the ARO defeat "on" for the right side sub, plugged it into the Duet, and a few days later, only the power light was on.

The outlet with all my main gear does not have this problem (I have a digital clock plugged into that outlet, and the time display has not reset due to a power loss).

So for now, I have both subs plugged directly into the wall and its working fine. But here in the Chicagoland area, we do get storms and lose power every now and then. I'd like to have them on some type of power protection.

Any thoughts on why the Duets aren't working with the F112s, and what I could use for power protection and conditioning?

Thanks-
Don

gax279.....Welcome to AA

You might have a faulty AC inlet module/cartridge on your Duet, which should be covered by warranty.

bradleyc, thank you for the reply. While I don't discount the fact that I may have a faulty AC inlet module on the Duet, I'm wondering what are the odds of both Duets being bad? They are less than a year old, bought new from Crutchfield.

I guess it's possible, so to test this theory, I have the L side sub (with the ARO on, so the light is red) plugged into a PS Audio Quintet (left over from when I got the AV 5000 Power Center), to see if it's an issue with the sub or cables. I moved one of the Duet's to my bedroom and have my clock plugged into it to see if it's a bad Duet. The R side sub is plugged directly into the wall.

Not sure what will happen-if it's a bad Duet, then my clock will turn off and on, or if it's something with the sub, then it will power off and on while on the Quintet.

I'll report back, in the interest of letting others know.

Default Mystery solved...

Well, that didn't take too long-my clock (connected to a Duet) was blinking when I came home from work.

I failed to check the most obvious thing, which was literally, right in front of me.

:red-19:

Live and learn...I'll contact PS Audio for warranty service on both Duets.

At any rate, I love my subs and appreciate the info on this forum. It has been very helpful, as well as the Wireworld thread.

Thanks-
Don

Hello all, I'm new to audioaficianado, seems like an awesome forum. My F112 should arrive on Saturday. I ultimately decided on the F112 because I eventually want to go to dual subs. Figured dual F113s would be overkill for my room and my wallet will thank me.

Looking forward to posting my thoughts and pics soon. Im sure ill have plenty of questions for you guys later on.
