According to user Stereo 5 on "the other" forum, three users here have PMd him and told him " there was a bad batch of the potted transformers which was confirmed by McIntosh."

I'm reporting this info here so that the discussion can remain public.

I had ordered a 207 which arrived damaged. I was able to use it while my 303s were in transit. Thing buzzed like crazy, I was glad to return it when the 303s arrived.

I am sorry to hear about the issue with your amp and hopefully it can be corrected! I purchased my MC8207 in November and dead quiet so far. I have 3 dedicated 20amp lines for my HT using PS Audio Soloist Premier outlets, and the MC8207 is plugged directly into one of them by itself. Do keep us posted!!

I don't think mine is the 60hz buzz, it's way louder than that.

If you can and want, plug it directly to the outlet and try to hear if there is any buzzing and if not than you got a good one.

My MC8207 is OK with no noise issue, and is plugged directly into the Soloist Premier SE since purchased. Just noting how mine was installed to compare....

oh ok just saw what they were, I thought it was a power conditioner plugged into the wall at first, sorry my bad. Yes I do have 20 amp dedicated isolated outlet myself too.

No worries Tom...I sure hope you get this figured out and corrected. I cannot imagine your frustration, especially if the amp was purchased new!

I am not an electricity expert.

Since I had a buzz in my unit for years I supplied you a suggestion on what was an easy inexpensive fix for me. It is not my understanding that a DC Eliminator masks a transformer problem. Do you know exactly what DC offset is on the power line?

Maybe it might not help you.

Best of luck to you,

Ron
