Pops and ticks are inherent in vinyl playback, imo. That said, even a beginner can detect a smoothness/richness that is unique to that format.
My ear can immediately detect if Im listening to vinyl or streaming.

When i ripped my collection, i only followed basic settings to ensure I wasn't compressing. Wonder if i missed something

I think it's wonderful having so many choices listening to our favorite music and moving from one format to another.

For me it's a personal emotional decision what I listen too, as long as it sounds good to my ears.

Unless really egregious, am listening to the music and rarely notice. Plus, keeping my LPs clean reduces same to a non-noticeable level.

There is the Sugar Cube series click and pop remover available, the SC-1 and SC2, which are supposed to do a more than good job of removing these artifacts. Plus, it has an on-board DAC and WiFi. I might consider one, if I'm sure I'll stick with LPs as a format. Right now, no plans not to.

As for streaming, no plans to go there. I had an experience at the doctor's office on Friday though that did get me thinking about adding digital to my setup. They had someone's iPod connected to the office sound system, and many songs I recognized were playing. I liked the sound and the mix of tracks, and began thinking. While I might not stream, I could see ripping my CDs to a digital player with an on-board hard drive and creating my own playlists. I do that now except I rip them to an external connected to my iMac and burn playlists to CD.

Another option is Accuphase - the higher end SACD players also feature Async USB DAC inputs which would work well for streaming Roon/Tidal.

That said I have noticed a difference in CD rips vs Tidal but do prefer my Roon/Mac Mini as source over an external CDP transport on my Accuphase DC37 DAC.

Haven’t really looked back at CD playback in the past 12+ years after switching to Music Servers.

Best wishes from Toronto!

The Luxman SACD player with the USB input capable of 384 kHz/32-bit PCM data and DSD data (2.82 M, 5.64 MHz) has opened up a new realm of high resolution listening for me. Combined with quality recordings from such sources as Sound Liason and there is no going back... That's where it's at for me. Of course the selection is far from "broad" but more recordings are available just about monthly.
