Cellindo,

Thanks for your input regarding the Sasha/Dan D'Agostino Momentum monoblocks pairing.

Serge (PHC1) had actually posted (in The Lounge's General Audio Discussion Forum) his comprehensive thoughts regarding the Sasha/Momentum pairing which he heard recently, and I have been in the process of pestering him for some additional thoughts in relation to my amp search for my Sashas (http://audioaficionado.org/general-a...tml#post155162).

I did also read up on the Sasha/Momentum setup at the recent CES show in Las Vegas (Jan-2011) and also spoke to an individual from Wilson Audio who commented that the Momentums were one of the best SS pairings with the Sashas that this individual has heard to date (even besting the Krell Evo One, Krell Evo 900 and Lamm M1.2 Ref.).

As you mentioned above, there was no preamp present in the audio chain (source was a MacBook with a dCS Puccini SACD/CD player and U-Clock, and Transparent Audio Opus cabling), so it begs the question, sonically speaking, what a Sasha/D.D. Momentum/Ayre KX-R/Ayre QB-9/Mac Mini/Transparent Reference XL-MM2 combo will sound like.

Then again, given Dan's reputation as one of the most experienced/leading amp designers, and given what he did for the Krell sound when introducing the Evo lineup, you're probably right that these amps would be an excellent choice sonically wise.

My brain is working overtime now trying to rationalize/consolidate all my thoughts in making a final amp decision for my system.

Philip

You would do yourself a huge disservice if you did not try out a pair of Burmester 911 MK3 for your Wilsons. With the spectacular pin point imaging and sometimes difficult load your speakers demand, they sound extraordinary with the slam and incredible liquidity the Burmesters bring to the table.

I would suggest you consider Boulder. I have the 2060 driving my Wilsons. I auditioned many amps for many hours including the Krell amps, the Ayre MXRs, Classe, ARC and IMO the 2060 was just in a different league altogether.

Default Krell EVO

Hi pjsl,

For what it is worth my opinion.
I do not own a pair of Sasha's, but a friend of my.
I have heard them with the Pass 600.5. A few monts later with the Pass 160.5. He still was not totally happy with the synergy. Than he got a pair of Krell Evo 600's. Wow that was something different :-). We liked it a lot.
The system was totally in control. After a while i got my new Krell Evo 400e's.
So we tried someday my Evo 400e's on his Sascha's. That was even better than the Evo 600 (no E's). We didn't test it on earkilling levels in his not very big listeningroom. After that experience he ordered the new Evo 600e's.
He is a happy men right now ;-).
From his words the Evo One is not (always) better than the new Evo 600e..

Dear Philip,

I think that your choice for the source (AYRE QB-9) is not sufficient for the quality of these speakers. I know just a little this DAC and as good as it is, you need a top class source to paire with the SASHA.
Even a dCS Puccini (like mine) is OK but it would require a U-Clock to match better with SASHAs. That should be my next big upgrade.

Cheers.

I agree that the Sashas like top class equipment driving them.

Had the pleasure of hearing them under the control of the Technical Brain TBP-Zero mono blocks.

Talk2me....thanks for your recommendation....I have listened to all-Burmester setups on various occasions over the years including the 911 MK3 stereo power amp and have to agree they sound exquisite with just about any type of music genre, except for electronica music (especially deep house, deep beat, down-tempo music)....nonetheless, it is a compelling thought to try demoing them with the Sashas.....Once again, many thanks.....Philip

Just my thoughts. Before I would consider spending Technical Brain, Solution, Boulder 2000 Series money on amps, I would go higher up the Wilson food chain. Spending thee or more times on amps than speakers doesn't coincide with my thinking. Just my two cents.

Jim
