My nephew and his new wife visited me this past weekend. They had not heard any of the gear in the studio, so after dinner I took them down there. I started with the two channel tube system, then moved to the surround sound system, and finally to the Shakira Oral Fixation, and Legends Blu-ray discs. I know I knocked their socks off. Heck, it knocked mine off, too. More than once both of them commented it sounds just like the performers are in the room.

We went down to the studio about 8:30PM, and they couldn't get enough of the music and Blu-Ray videos. We didn't get out of the studio until 2:45AM. They had a blast, and I thoroughly enjoyed showing my gear off. The Oppo BDP-83SE performed flawlessly. The analog surround sound was spectacular, and the Blu-ray video was perfect. I still stand in awe of the Oppo BDP-83SE player, especially when I consider how little I paid for the top shelf performance it delivers in abundance.

I'm still hesitant to pull the trigger simply due to cost of BD titles. Once they are in DVD price range - I'm there. That and I'd need about 15-20TB of data storage to properly house a collection and stream them!

E.......I own only 4 Blu-ray concert DVD's, and 8 Blu-ray movies. I get my Blu-ray movies from Netflix delivered by mail. I have watched thirty Blu-ray movies in the past four months, and I enjoyed every single one. Even when a Blu-ray movie isn't that interesting, I am still marveling at the picture and sound quality. Amazing.

Score yourself the Oppo BDP-83SE. You won't be disappointed.

I would like to experience the Oppo BDP-83SE with the Modwright modifications especially with the 2-ch XLR outputs added. Dan has a talent for taking something very good and making it excellent.

I have considered the Modwright mod and most likely I will do it one day. But with a lot of other large changes/purchases right now it will have to wait a while .

Even with the cost of the Modwright mod with the xlr outputs at about $ 1,200 plus the cost of the SE player the performance to cost ratio is still incredible. Not even taking in to consideration the video side and everything else this player does so unfailingly well.

I have ordered one of the Wyred 4 Sound DAC 2's and we will see how it stacks up. It should be a great dac, but it will be about a month or so before I receive it.
