15:17 to Paris
Had the opportunity to see this today. The show was about 40% full which isn't bad for a Wednesday afternoon. I have a feeling that many in the audience came away a bit let down with Clint Eastwood's latest directorial effort. Don't get me wrong the last 15 minutes was pretty good but the first 75 minutes that were a bit dragged out. Many of you probably know that the actual hero's of this true event were cast as themselves for the movie. Hero's they are, comfortable as actors they are not. If you do go to see it stay a bit into the credits as there is a brief video of their return to Sacramento.
Someone posted that it felt more like a after school special than a Clint Eastwood movie. Surely not in the vein of Pale Rider, Letters from Iwo Jima, Flags of Our Fathers, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IC_lnyn2R2Q Last edited by Still-One; 02-15-2018 at 09:38 AM. |

Jim,
My son saw it and he thinks exactly like you. Clint is a fabulous director. We are used to a stunning quality with his productions. The expectations are very high. I will pass on this one and will look at it on TV.

Sometimes it more about telling the story.

The story of what happened on the train took up about 15 minutes of the movie. This was well done and important to tell. I don't want to pick apart scene by scene the hour and fifteen minutes that it takes to get there but there were many holes in the storyline. Eastwood tried to pack in their junior high shenanigans, post high school lack of direction, some early military training disappointments for one of the three. At the same time they neglected to say much of anything about the other two until get on a video conference to discuss traveling around Europe.
