My 2 cents...

Mike,

I had a friend who was over at RMAF this year, and he was also impressed with the Sasha/Doshi combo as well.

Just curious as to which were the 'other highly touted amplification' combos that were not as musical as the Sasha/Doshi combo?

Philip

Phillip,

I found the Doshi-Sasha combo to be more musical than the D'Agostino-Sasha setup. Just my 2cents...

Thanks,
Mike

I've spent about a week with the Doshi's in my system. These amps are very musical and I've enjoyed listening to them for hours without any fatigue. To me the Doshi's have more texture and tonality of each instrument/voice when compared to the Lamms. The Lamms are very open and detailed, with good separation, but somehow less musically satisfying then the Doshi's. Also the Doshi has incredible depth of field which creates a more satisfying tonal, and musical palette. if you get chance to listen to the Doshi's, like many did at RMAF, you will be pleasently surprised.

Now, will I replace my Lamms with Doshi's? Not at this time. I have a couple other amps to try and I am still very happy with my Lamms so the final decission might be to keep them for a longer time.

Try the Lamm LL2 preamp before getting rid of your Lamm amps!

Thanks for the update Chuck. Sounds like the Doshis are a winning combination with Sashas. Just out of curiosity, how large is your room and at what level do you typically listen? Did you ever find the Doshi's to run out of steam? How did they do with the bass and that 1.8 Ohm dip?

Dave my room isn't large and bass was never a challenge. I also listened to it at the dealer which was a larger room at least in height and had them play them very loud with Sasha's.
There didn't appear to be a problem with the bass at all.

[QUOTE=psjl;

One thing for sure, it sure felt a helluva lot more than 300W - huge presence, expansive holographic soundstage, slam to-die-for, speed, detail, transparency, yet rich & lush and very musically engaging. In addition, when I swapped the D.D. Momentums for the 300W rated Ayre MX-R monoblock amps, the difference was significantly telling.

Don't get me wrong, I really love the Ayre MX-R monoblock amps, especially when paired with my Ayre KX-R preamp. In fact, they were on my shortlist during my amp search, and at USD 18,500 a pair, they are an absolute steal at that price point given their performance level, especially when you compare them to the D.D. Momentum monoblock amps' USD 45,000 price tag. But as I said in my earlier comments in this thread, I personally felt that the D.D. Momentums were like Ayre MX-R on steroids (and then some), so I 'bit the bullet' and ordered a pair of Momentums even though my budget was thoroughly busted - and yes, my friends think I'm 'nuts'!.

Philip, tell me more about MX-R vs D.D. Momentums

I heard the Doshi's with the Sasha's and wasn't that impressed. I feel the VTL 450 mk3 was better. That for me is a great combination. Granted I heard it at a show but the Doshi's didn't stand out for me. I found them a bit too soft in dynamics.

The DD Momentums are like a fine watch in Ivans collection. A special piece for sure.

With my limited experience, the best I've heard have been Lamm M1.2 Reference Monos.
