Any views on the Naim uniti Star all in one?
I'm thinking of getting this unit, it does everything I want and getting an amp, cd, radio, dac etc will come to or go beyond it's price. Any views? Granted it only has the Naim 5i amp, but it might be a worthwhile entry in to hi fi for your mid fi King.

My view is...get it!
And report back.

When I can call on the moving van, the axiom when you move you buy new things should hold true.

a. Naim is very conservative about power ratings. Even the basic level 45W Uniti Atom has more grunt than the NAD M10 which claims 100W.
b. Naim has a very unique house sound - emphasis on PRAT - dynamics, transients are sharpened and detailed. May not be a good match with some speakers and in brighter rooms. c. the UI/streaming engine and phone/tablet app is one of the best. Easy to use and beautiful, responsive display. Having the ability to walk up to the unit and turn the volume down is so easy and convenient (and happens more regularly than you'd expect). A touch screen is great until you realise you have to find the menu screen with the volume control and use a slider. Also love the wireless remote that doesnt need IR line of sight with volume indicator. d. the functionality of the Star is quite unique - ability to play CDs and rip to HDD or USB or NAS. e. and if you don't like the Naim signature, just add a power amp to match your main speakers

Thanks doggie, I intend for some very syrupy speakers for the Naim. Spendor A7's or Focal Aria's. My Ruark R5 will be warm for the bedroom, I don't mind a change of pace for the living room. Two warms do not make a right. I think I can live with the well known Naim sharpness once mellowed, and thanks for the tip about the power amp. I'll give it a full test ride in my local shop.

I have been looking at the Uniti Atom or Nova for a second system - very impressed, as is the audio press (see What hi-fi and Stereophile reviews of the Uniti Nova and others).
Are you planning to listen to CDs on the Uniti Star, or use it to rip and store CDs?

Love my Naim Uniti Core. I would expect the Uniti Star to be the best single box solution.

You could of course use an external transport and connect with coaxial to the Nova...

I prefer the one box solution Bart, but your right, Audiolab do one for £379 and I'm sure the Nova DAC will make it feel right at home. I think R5 to Star will be enough of a seismic upgrade for little old me. It's supposed to be rather good with Internet radio, and it has Airplay as well. That insulated flat can't come soon enough.
