PPP - Voltage Accuracy

Jim........Sweet. I just finished calibrating my PPP in the studio system. Same here. My PPP output is 120.1 volt at the receptacle on the rear of the PPP, and now reads 120 volts output on the display. I have 124.3 volts at the wall receptacle, and the PPP now reads 124 volts input on the display. I am pleased.

Before the calibration the PPP was reading 120 volts output on the display, but the meter connected to the receptacle on the rear of the PPP read 118 volts. I used the potentiometer on the bottom of the PPP to adjust my output to 120.1 volts, then calibrated the output display. The input was reading 125 volts on the display before calibration, but the wall receptacle had 124.3.

The PS Audio Power Plant Premier is designed in Colorado, but built in China. I am guessing that their is not a great deal of display calibration time spent on each unit. They are probably tweaked once, and boxed. I was fortunate to locate the service manual on the web. I saved it, and I am glad I did.

I'll pull the other two PPP's out of the main system rack tomorrow, and calibrate the input and output displays on those. I want to know the real story, not the close enough story.

j3brow.......Purchase a quality multimeter, not one of the $16.00 ones at Lowes. The easiest way to assure the meter is relatively accurate is to check it against a second meter, both reading the same voltage source. They should be absolutely right on, or damn close (+/- 1 volt max) would indicate they are measuring correctly. If you ask, most stores will allow you to make this test with two meters to insure you are getting an accurate meter.

Jim.......I just completed the display calibrations for input and output voltage readings on the two Power Plant Premiers in my main system. I had to pull them both out of the rack to get to the potentiomenter for output voltage adjustments. Both PPP's are right on the money now. Both PPP's were -1 volt on the output display, and +1 volt on the input display. Looking good now with 124 volts input, 120 volts output.

I would recommend that everyone owning a Power Plant Premier check the actual output voltage with a meter at the rear receptacles, and adjust the potentiometer on the bottom until you have 120 volts output on your meter. Use the meter to check the output voltage at the wall receptacle, then perform the display calibration to get the input and output voltage readings perfect.

Being a non-tech guy, I suppose what I see is what I get. During daytime, its 239v to 240v from the wall, while nighttime, it reads 240v to 242v. I suppose I will just have to live with that until Jim visit this part of the world and then maybe I will buy a meter for him to help calibrate.

Jerry, get yourself down to the electronics store. A voltmeter is only about S$7 and all you need to do is insert the probes into the PPP output and also your wall socket and then adjust the PPP display to match the input and adjust the output to read 240V or whatever it is you want over there!

Seriously, simple as it may be, my dear wife would not let me do it cause I am such a idiot ... for her to loose!

If for nothing I can loose some 70% of my lungs efficiency (was a mystery until recently the respiratory consultant detected the cause ... "after shave" the main culprit), imagine what would happen if I stick the wrong thing into the wall socket!

Hi Howard,

Thanks for the well wishing. I am now back to 71% and had stopped using any kind of cologne, after shave or whatever that contains alcohol.

Indeed with good health, one can only then enjoy good music and having a great wife certainly helps.
