Gadzooks! blighty had another tornado.
It was a quiet rainy afternoon in the plush suburb of Chertsey in Surrey yesterday, a mere 20 miles from me when it struck. Ripping the roof off a conservatory, and a bit more, it passed over a motorway and a lady filmed it as it spun some minor pick up material as it went over their car. Not a great deal to see on the 'tube video, but it can be seen. It was about 0.11 on the fujita scale, but I hope it's not a trend, as we don't have tornado damage on our home insurance cover. I guess cold winds from the North sea met the mild December, er, winds? Just type in Chertsey tornado on the 'tube for the full gen. There was also a storm cloud in the more open plains of Yorkshire but the funnel like cloud of sorts didn't touch down.

Tornadoes and severe weather in general are one reason I don't think I'd ever live in the plains states here in the US. I might be reluctant to live in the south as well. I've been through one tornado in NY, an EF0, but that's sufficient.

We 'tend' to get one every 25 years or so. The last one in London took about 15 roofs off/severely damaged in the busy afternoon and people just wen't in to the nearest shop. We don't really get three wind confluences so it's a mystery. The wide open plains of a suburban London high street? Odd. Joplin, El Reno etc, RIP to all the victims.
