The Benz Ace is another great cartridge for the Concept......many have reported its one of the best matches with the Magnify arm, most likely due to its heavier wieght.

Listened to the Concept with Maestro Wood MM yesterday. System was C500 preamp, MC501s, SF Amati speakers. As I walked in, the music was, too ripe in the bottom end and lacking dynamics as well as top end air. Soundstage was compressed and lacking depth and width. I assumed it was the C500P phono stage so I offered the dealer to help optimize the speaker positioning. Soundstage opened up and some bottom end bloat was gone but still too laid back and lacking life. I knew the Maestro Wood was capable of plenty more and suspected the table was as well.

Good thing he mentioned he was using a budget phono stage and thought the C500 sounded just the same. Hmmm, I insisted we try the C500 and play around with loading. Of course that did the trick, 550 pF loading and the system sprang to life much to the dealer's surprise and satisfaction.

I gave the Concept a long look and a listen afterwords, very nice table for the money. While not as dynamic and detailed as the Performance table I owned, it sure is musical and enjoyable. As long as you don't expect top shelf performance from it, it will more than satisfy the vinyl lover on a budget.

Has anyone done any tweeks to their Concept yet? The spiked feet look like a likely place to start and maybe a record clamp. Has anyone tried these?.....

Stephen, I am afraid to listen to your system. I may wind up spending some serious bucks on Shindo after the visit....

Serge,

My thoughts are similar to yours.

If you hear it... you WILL want it.

I've got an idea... fly to SB, check out my system, then...we'll get on the bikes and take the 1 to San Francisco and go to Pitch Perfect Audio...
