Thanks Kal. I just ordered a D-BOB. Your review was positive so I will give it a try.

Nope. The only way are the HDMI adaptors that can strip DSD or rip them with an old Oppo

Just to be clear, the ripping can be done with many different players, not just the two Oppos.

Some Pioneer and Cambridge players are also SACD-rip-capable.

I used a Sony BDP-S5100, cheap second hand. Works flawlessly. |

So, just to be clear, does that sony record the DSD layer off of an SACD, with no mods? If so, I’ll have one on order before I go to sleep tonight.

That Sony is among a number of SACD players that have a specific chipset that allows the bitstream to be captured by a computer.
There is software you need to load onto a thumb drive then depending on the exact player, go through some specific steps that then allow a PC on the same network of the player to capture the stream while the SACD spins. E.G. rip the SACD to a DSD/DSF file. Once you learn the steps for a given player it is quite simple. When I get a new SACD, it’s first spin in a player is in my OPPO 103 to capture the RIP. Send me a PM and I will point to the website that has all you need.

What about DoP (DSD over PCM) on sacd players?

The original idea for DoP was invented by dCS in 2011. It involves taking groups of 16 adjacent 1-bit samples from a DSD stream and packing them into the lower 16 bits of a 24/176.4 data stream. Data from the other channel of the stereo pair is packed the same way. A specific marker code in the top 8 bits identifies the data stream as DoP, rather than PCM. The resulting DoP stream can be transmitted through existing 24/192-capable USB, AES, Dual AES or SPDIF interfaces to a DoP-compatible DAC, which reassembles the original stereo DSD data stream COMPLETELY UNCHANGED.
