Will be a couple of days before I'll get a good listen. Work/new baby keeping me busy.
This PSE is like the rest with the IIPS. Dennis suggested I try the kt66 to start with. Thought it would more in the vain the 45 set I've been listening to. Agree, will definitely try kt77 also. Regarding the copper chassis. My 45 set is copper also. I asked Dennis early on about doing a copper chassis, I paid a surcharge to have this done around the cost of a set of output tubes. |

The Soviet era tubes were generally very well made. Their military relied on tubes as the USSR never managed to develop a solid-state manufacturing capability to support their needs. Even their latest MIG fighters, which were very capable, had tube-based electronics.

Allan,
I think you know the answer to this. I have been rereading this thread lately and ran across posts which I think are incorrect. Namely that the Inspire Firebottle amps are UL. I understand them to be SEP. I even seem to recall Dennis expressing his dissatisfaction with UL circuits which I feel I concur. However if these Inspire amps are UL then I will have to rethink my life a bit. Scott |

It is true that Soviet military planes used tubes, but the last one built with tubes rolled off the production line in 1984. A few of them are still in service, in limited duty. Tubes built for these planes were very rugged & reliable. |

Here's a nice little article about the Soviet 6C33C-B tube

I have been repairing an amp on a consignment repair job that apparently was a knock off of an earlier design, and it is UL. However, Dennis absolutely hates UL designs now, describing them as the worst sort of "degenerative feedback". I found it to be a good exercise for me since this is an entirely new circuit for me, and I learned a lot from playing with it and modifying the design...Oh and it's easy enough to tell if an amp is UL. If the OPT has a third wire from the primary side that goes to the screen of a beam power tetrode or pentode output tube, it's typically an UL design.... That's correct. MIG aircraft are all tubes.
