Default Wilson Yvette with Ayre 5 Twenty Series

I have a friend who is interested in building a 2 channel system and is seriously thinking about this combo. Anyone care to speculate how well this would match? He's looking at the Ayre QX5 Twenty DAC, KX5 Twenty Pre, and VX5 Twenty stereo amp and likes the size of the Yvette's. Also liking the reviews and comments from shows about the Yvette's performance, but he has not heard yet.

With 350w into 4 ohms, I can't imagine it wouldn't be awesome. Has he heard sasha 2's before? Yvette sounds a lot like that, fairly close. I love Yvette, it's a really good sweet spot in the line up. Much better than the sophia was (and more expensive).

I know he's heard Alexia's and really liked them, but doesn't want anything that big. I think he's heard Sasha 2's, but not certain. If not, I can bring him to audition Sasha 2's for starters, but would really like to find some Yvettes to audition.

I didn't like the bottom end grip of VX5-Twenty on my Sabrinas. My Devialet and the Mcintosh amps I tried did a better job in that regard.

Ayre DACs rule and that's a pretty awesome preamp. I'd maybe look at the MC452 power amp from Mcintosh at the same price.

Note: I'm pretty green, so take my advise with a grain of salt.

Okay thanks. Our local dealer carries Mcintosh too, so not out of the question.

So, you should ask your dealer to try C1100+Mc601 with Yvette, it is a wonderful combo I had the chance to enjoy for more than two hours.

I also compared Yvette / Sasha 2 with this C1100+Mc601 combo and I prefered the Yvette.

Very interesting! So many positive comments about the Yvette. Can you tell me what you preferred about the Yvette over the Sasha 2?

I highly doubt that combo would disappoint, best try it at a dealers though to be safe.

I agree... always best to test drive first. Local dealer here does not have either to audition, so may have to coordinate a road trip somewhere.
