I agree, If I have a smaller size room, my words exactly i'd be all over the S3's. However in my medium size room, I prefer the S5's which my Dealer and I agree are the right S model for my space . |

Hi Bud, my room size is (approx) - 7.0 meters long x 4 meters deep (at edge of timber landing) or 5 meters deep to back wall behind stairs, however I live in a loft apartment with an open atrium above my RH speaker, so there is a bit more open space. Also my wooden stairs are open which helps diffuse the rear waves (see photo below).
To be fair, I haven't actually had the S3's in my apartment to compare. So i'm relying to some extent on my Dealer's advice - "Definitely S5 is better for your room and S3 are for mine. Doubt S3 would be able to fill your open space with proper bass". Last edited by Bodhisattva; 03-01-2014 at 11:14 PM. |

Thank you. I might be moving, and the room I am considering for the stereo is about that size. I guess I will hold off on speaker upgrades until I move, or decide not to.

Hi Yardbird, I sure will . Unfortunately my Dealer had to leave early yesterday to deliver some gear to a customer, but i've locked in an appointment for next weekend.

There are a few variables with the S3 & S5; from what I am hearing the S3's are getting great reviews & are capable of going deep in the bass. Marten Colloms commented that by using two 8inch bass drivers per box instead of two tens, that is about a 12inch, whilst two tens is a 14.5inch in equivalent cone area. Anyway, i'll have a clearer idea of the S3's next week when I give them an audition .

Hi David,
The S3 will also work in your room, also because your listening distance to your speakers is relativly close. do you have space behind your listening position or is it close to the wall ? Here you might be able to win a lot in performance, when deciding to go for a set up in the long part of the room. Olaf
