thank you for the welcome, it is appreciated. I have noticed a few replies and thought I would acknowledge them with another post. I am a musician and love the sound of live music. I find that a good hi-fi system can reproduce these sounds in such a way that we can enjoy an almost live sounding performance in our own homes. To this end and an emotional engagement with the music, I am working. The Dalby preamp is expensive and it is the most real sounding preamp I have heard.

Although my other hi-fi components are inferior to the quality of this preamp, in performance and musicality, the Dalby has transformed my entire system. It has elevated my sound to a point where it is much better than my system deserves. I have partnered the Dalby with Audio Note equipment.

Lee Dalby came and demonstrated the preamp personally, I was astonished at the sound I was hearing. He suggests that the biggest improvements to sound would come through upgrading a preamp and the speakers, assuming other components are already worthy of such a preamp. I tend to agree - I have experienced various Audio Note preamps and can say that they did not transform my system like the Dalby has done.

re price, the one you are looking at is the Line Stage version. I have opted to go for the D7-LP which as the letters suggest provide me with two line stages and a phono stage.

I would love to answer more questions if you feel they would help you towards audio heaven. I have bought many items in the past that have led me to audio hell and a feeling of being cheated, the Dalby is certainly not one of these and ultimately, I feel is a component that cannot be bettered, thus as my system improves over the years, I feel it will be built around the Dalby preamp.

enjoy the festive season and the music of this time of year.

kind regards

Jonathan

Welcome to AA Jonathan! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this rare gem.

Are you using their isolation feet as well? I heard they are extremely expensive but sounds amazing.

Yes, I do use their isolation feet. They came with the preamp inclusive in the price. In fact, there is no watered down version of this preamp because the design ethic is to produce the best possible sound with the best possible materials and design. The ones I opted for are the carbon fibre/ brass/ gold/ ceramic coupled feet.

As I have mentioned before, the sound of the preamp is simply stunning and I am sure that the feet are an integral part of this achievement. I have not removed them to see if the sound deteriorates without the feet, however, it may be a useful and interesting exercise to test the feet on some other components. Let me know if I can try this out for you and feed back, because it will require a few careful minutes with an allen key and screwdriver to remove the feet.

I am glad you are interested in the Dalby brand, Lee Dalby has invested many years and much money into the project. The number 7 in the model number, D7-LP, stands for the seven years of refinement before the preamplifier was finally ready for release. I feel it represents the pinnacle of UK design.

I look forward to any more comments and replies.

Jonathan

I have talked with Mr. Dalby several times via emails and he seemed to be a very genuine person.

Will you be able to send me some real life photos of this preamp? Since you aren't registered (it's only $25 and you get lots of benefits including the "Marketplace" section where you can sell and buy stuff with confidence), do you mind sending them to my email?

Thanks.
