Default 802D or 802 Diamond?

I am considering a used pair of 802s. I can get a pair of 802Ds (first gen) without much to do in terms of budget and convenience. A pair of 802 Diamonds (second gen) would be more expensive and harder to come by.

I am upgrading from an N804. I now have a BIG room, 15 feet by 32 feet with almost a 9 foot ceiling. The N804s are just anemic.

Is there any compelling reason to hold out for an 802 Diamond (D2)? I love the D3 but it is just out of my price range. Can anyone argue that an 802D would be a mistake? I feel like that is an old speaker already but it should still be a big step up from my N804. Thoughts?

Personally, I would be looking at the 800D (first Gen); it will be a better choice over 802D and 802D2; has Diamond tweeter, Rohacell bass drivers; with the right electronics I didn't hear any difference between 800D and 800D2. I know someone in the Chicago area that is selling his 800D and HTMD2 (never used) in cherry. Would be perfect for your room, enough width, height and depth for an airy, holographic presentation.

I had the original N802's for almost 10 years before I upgraded to the 802D2's and the difference was night and day. I have also spent a considerable amount of time with the 802D's (first generation) and the improvements on the D2 is very significant with improved bass clarity and tone, and better treble dynamics. The D2 version has a completely different motor assembly for the tweeters including dome surround and the bass drivers use a dual magnet design which lowered distortion. The crossover has also improved as well. I would not hesitate to go for the D2 if you can afford it.
