Second P10, stupid question . . .

OK, I've relented and have a second P10 on order as my 2301s are so power hungry.

My first (likely stupid) question is how to distribute the load across the P10s. I have 2 MC2301s that I could run on one of the p10s (drawing about 30% when they are on) and the balance of the components (mcintosh pre, Bryston digital player, sony tuner, turntable) could be on the other P10. Or, I could put one 2301 on one P10, one on the other and somehow logically distribute the balance of the components across both (resulting in an operating load of ~30% for each P10 at normal volume levels).

My second (surely stupid) question is whether the P10 needs to be on in order to give me surge protection. So, if I leave the house with the system off, does the P10 need to be on in order to protect the system. It only draws 2 or 3% when all of the components are off (even with just the one unit). I'd rather just turn the whole thing off if I could.

Thanks in advance. Love the P10, hated to buy a second, but the SQ improvements with just one were great.

I'd put the MC2301 on one P10 and the rest on the other one. I don't know if there is a sonic difference between the two but I find this way to be more logical.

If the system is off, you should be protected from surge as the electrical circuit is open (this is basically the same as unplugging the device). The surge protection comes in play when the devices are on.

I would put both 2301's on one P10, everything else on the other P10. Leave them on all the time.

Ivan and antipop are 100% correct. Always if possible separate your front end components from amps.

Yep, you will love it. My system sonically benefited from the addition of a 2nd P10. I hooked mine up with one mono block on each P10 and the other components balanced between the two. This was on the recommendation of PS audio when i inquired. Go with which ever arrangement you want. Purely on a cable management basis, it works best for me to split the components as I have described. Bottom line, either way will sound great! Splitting the amps across 2 P10's helps for those current demanding moments ... And the P10 outlets are isolated from one another so there is zero (ok maybe very little is a better word) concern about crosstalk between components! PS Audio also advised me on that issue (non-issue).

Just plugged in the second P10 last night, for about two tracks off of a familiar disc and it was just wonderful. More later, but the short term assessment is that adding the second P10 added even more SQ improvements.

I can't imagine why more high end listeners don't focus on the purity and reliability of their power. It's like upgrading every component, and the second P10 materially enhanced the improvements brought by the first one.
