If you like that album, you'll probably like Preservation Hall's release last year as well. Any other New Orleans jazz recommendations?

I try to get down to New Orleans two or three times a year. A fantastic place for live music of every genre.
I think you were talking about Preservation Hall which has been running there since the 60s. Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Preservation Hall - New Orleans Jazz The best NOLA gig guide I've found is on WWOZ's site; a great online radio station. WWOZ New Orleans 90.7 FM : New Orleans' Jazz & Heritage Station : Dedicated to Bringing New Orleans Music to the Universe The best block for music clubs is on Frenchmen Street around Royal in Marigny. Katrina did little damage to the areas that most tourists would visit (French Quarter, Marigny, CBD are above sea level); the failure of the levees destroyed musch of New Orleans that was below sea level |

Just in case anyone's still interested; John Boutte - Good Neighbor. Fantastic singer that sounds (and is often compared to) Sam Cooke. Was turned on to this amazing artist after seeing him a few times on HBO's 'Treme'. I own 'The Bright Mississippi' and while I think it's a great recording it's not exactly representative of a 'New Orleans' sounding record (I know, NO has a rich universe of music to draw from, but...). This John Boutte record is just a wonderful record, it's become one of my favorites! Highly recommended!!
