Dont mention Sir Serge! I did my homework last year when I was about to make the dive for that system. This is to ensure there was support for equipments that are already of a certain age.

One of the beautiful things about the convenience McIntosh offers through system integration and remote control is that this convenience never gets in the way of the music. The features are invisible until required, perform flawlessly, and disappear again when not in use. Being able to shut down a complicated system of seperate amps, and sources with a single button push is a real luxury, too. There is a lot to be said for being able to adjust cartridge loading, both capacitive and resistive, from the listening position. It allows for A/B comparisons we only dreamed of just a few short years ago. Being able to adjust input trim levels remotely from the sweet spot helps make those adjustments more accurate. To me, these features are more than just convenience. Of course, there's always that particular track or two on a CD that you'd rather just skip. Without being disturb, a quick, single button push keeps the mood set, and the enjoyment undisturbed. It's all about continuity while maintaining an uninterrupted connection with the music.
I have spent many, many years without the modern features offered by McIntosh remote control. One can always get up from the couch, and handle the controls physically if desired. I don't believe I would care to lose the remote option. Then again, a component, or a system would have to be far superior to McIntosh for me to consider any change at all.

Another thing I like about remote control has to do with listening in the dark. Not having to bang a knee or stub a toe while trying to raise the volume is a big plus. I just stay put on the couch and press a button. Man this is living right.

I used to pride myself in having a simple system with no remote...
I am NOT going back there... I do want sonic nirvana ... but it must have a remote! |

Funny you mentioned that because in one of the reviews I read on Lamm tube mono's is that the reviewer slammed his toe into one of them with a resulting nasty cut while he was walking across the room to I believe adjust the volume...
