Strads compared to Amati Futura

I've been living with my Amati Futuras for a while now and love them. They were a nice change from my previous Sasha's.

However I've been curious about the Strads. Have not heard them and won't be able to audition them, but did hear Elipsas and was not a fan. They seemed closed-in and presented a much smaller soundstage than I was used to. Also a bit colored in the midrange compared to the Sashas and much less dynamic.

For those who have heard both the Amati Futura and Strads, how do they compare? What do the Strads do better? What do the Futuras do better?

I have Doshi tube monoblocks and will not change my amps. My music preferences are light rock, acoustic, female vocal. No hard rock or large scale classical.

If you thought the Ellipsa was “colored” in the midrange by comparison to Sasha, the Strads are even richer and a shade darker sounding. Some love it, some won’t. I like the Strads a lot.

Assuming you have someone who can set up both to their highest levels, I can't think of a single area where Futuras would be preferable to Strads. Strads are far more particular about precise setup but well worth it. Unfortunately. most stop far short of ever realizing Strad's full capability.

I have owned them both; and they were professionally setup by Bill.

I no longer own the Futura’s, that should sum it up for me.

Serge and Ivan there are many who can and have made magic with Strads. All have the same thing in common - they work past the point that most others would stop. As you guys well know, Strad clearly communicates what moves should be made.

Dave, just curious. Were those the original Elipsas, or the Elipsa SE (a.k.a Elipsa "Red")?
