O.K..... So, I'll see your SP5 and raise your budget low-end with:

My SP-6b.... It's driving a Bryston 4B ST pushing AR 4x's.

The AR's with new L-pads and new capacitors work nicely with the tube Pre.

I love the sound! (Three clicks up on the volume is all that is needed!)

SP-5? Wow, that was my first piece of ARC kit, circa 1977 / 78. Mated with a GAS Son of Ampzilla.

Same here, same era. My first "audiophile preamp". I bought the dealers demo unit and had it returned to ARC and modified into the SP7.

I'm running a Arc LS16MkII into a modified Behringer DCX2496 and NHT X1 crossovers feeding SS to the Bass Panels/ribbons, and tubes driving the Midrange Panels of my Modified Magnapan MDIIIa's. and SS driving my subs. Did I cover all the bases? :^)
Love the results BTW!
Regards,
Jim

I have an LS-27 and an Ayre VX-R amp. Thinking about eventually upgrading the
pre-amp to a Ref 5-SE.

I know you're an ARC fan, and it's quite a bit more expensive, but you owe it to yourself to at least listen to your VX-R with a KX-R Twenty pre.

This weekend I had the pleasure of listening to a Pass Labs XA30.8 and X150.8 with my Ref 5SE. Both amps had a great synergy with the Ref 5SE, and my Daedalus Audio Argos speakers. I can see either one of these amps in my system in the near future.

My Ref 10 works very well with my Pass Labs Xs 150. ARC preamp appears a good match with Pass Labs amp.
