Jerry.......PMC and Bryston have a long history together. In fact Bryston was the sole distributor for PMC in Canada and the US for quite a long time, and as I understand it, Bryston is still the Canadian distributor for PMC.

Bryston amps and PMC speakers are mated in PMC's professional line of powered speakers. PMC uses the Bryston amp packs, building them right onto the backs of the powered speakers. All that is needed to rock the house is a preamp or a mixing console, and a couple of balanced cables.

I have not heard any PMC/Bryston powered pro speakers, but what I have read about them has been all good.

In the mid-80's a friend brought over a Bryston 4B amp to try out in my system. At that time I was using a Hafler DH-500 (that amplifier is now on duty in my florida room system, powering the big JBL sub). I was quite impressed with the sound of the 4B; and with the amplifier overall. Built like a battleship, attractive, clean and powerful sounding.

The picture Dan posted doesn't fully do the product justice. I've seen one or two of their products in person recently, and I can attest that they are very attractive and obviously very well made. I didn't have a chance to audition, but I have no doubt that they are very fine performers.

Bryston is no slouch.

Bryston offers an impressive warranty, too.

Bryston analog audio circuits are warranted to be free from manufacturing defects for twenty (20) years from the original date of manufacture. The warranty includes parts and labour.

Bryston Digital circuits and cables are warranted for five years from the original date of manufacture. The warranty includes parts and labour.

Bryston products having motorized moving parts, excluding motorized volume controls, are warranted for three years from the original date of manufacture. The warranty includes parts and labour.

Bryston will remedy the problem by repair or replacement, as we deem necessary, to restore the product to full performance. Bryston will pay RETURN SHIPPING ONLY to the customer for the full length of the specific products warranty.


What's not to like about that?

What's not to like about that?

Yes. A warranty like that speaks volumes about the company's self-confidence. I've sometimes wondered why McIntosh doesn't offer a longer warranty. That should be easy for them, with the level of quality their products offer.

This is the Bryston PowerPack 300, the type you might see on the back of PMC powered speakers. This baby produces 300 watts into 8 ohms, and 500 watts into 4 ohms.

I had really wanted to try the ACTIVE TB2i's...

A pair of those and an MCD500 would make a nice simple little system.. that would ROCK!!!

Pete.......A large part of Bryston's confidence in the 20 year amplifier warranty comes from the testing that is done on each and every amplifier before it is boxed. Every amplifier goes through a rigorous series of full power tests that include 100 hours of full power on and off cycles, and then bench tested again for complience to all factory stated specifications. This level of quality control is admirable, and no doubt lends authority to the warranty.

Philip Beaudette of SoundStage toured the Bryston facilities in Canada in 2006, and wrote this article. There is some interesting information here, like Bryston being a US based company when they started in 1962.
