I went from LaScala center and surrounds to 2 Channel. So far, I like it, but I know I will be back to hometheater/5.1+ surround-- most likely in a dedicated room, not the living room.

I have my setup in the basement. 30 X 25 feet. Here is a pic of the wall mount center I switched the Belle out for.

Everything is installed and hooked up. Will get pics this weekend. Gonna try to get as much play time in them over the next week as possible (100+ hours).

Great project.
Would the current Cornwall III's benefit from some tweaks? |

If I were going to do a Cornwall upgrade, I would look into the Klipsch K510/K69 horn/driver and set it on top of the cabinet (to keep box original).
I'd then bypass all drivers other than bass driver and biamp. |

Remembering that I replaced a 38 Y/O set of X-overs as well as every horn, driver and piece of wire, here are my first impressions.
After ~18 hours of break in I sat down and played some things I am very familiar with. The first thing I noticed was my normal listening positions on the volume dial were a whole lot louder than they used to be. I attribute that to the new 6 ohm rating of the speakers. The Krell amp is 300 @ 8 ohm and 600 @ 4 ohm, so 6 ohm would be ~450. I need to dig out the db meter and do some level tweaking. The next thing was the sound-stage. It seemed bigger with well placed instruments and vocals. And everything was clearer. Dynamics also seemed noticeably improved. Overall, I am liking what I am hearing a lot. Still needs a bunch more play time to get it all broken in and I will continue that all week. I also need to do the same upgrades to the 2 Belle surrounds, and that will happen in the next few months. The new mid and tweet drivers are incredibly efficient (108.5db@1w). I have the mids connected to taps that reduce it 3db and the tweets are also 3db down. My impression is the tweets are good where they are, but the mids need to be reduced a bit more, so I will try a tap swap sometime next week. |
