I replaced the Sovtek 6H30EB's in the LS16MkII with the Cyro treated EH 6H30EB Gold pins, which arrived in great time. I paid a bit extra to get a matched set, and they sound very balanced using the Mono Vinyl Rig.

Even from the start these tubes exhibit a more controlled deeper Bass, richer Midrange and smoother top end though not as forward as the Sovtek. I feel there is no loss of speed or attack with the Gold pins, and the sound stage is deeper and more open. Vocals are startling via the Magnapans, and drums and cymbals are very realistic with proper attack and decay. If these improve with use, I will be very pleased indeed. I would say these tubes are a very worthwhile upgrade over the Sovteks, and the search is on for a pair of the 6H30DR's :^)

Regards,
Jim

Jim...great to hear. Quick question. How many hours did the stock Sovtek 6H30EBs have on them when you replaced them with the Gold Pins? It could also be that you are comparing a brand new set of 6H30 Gold Pins with fully depleted/worn our 6H30s and that could explain a good portion of the pick up in SQ. If however the Sovteks were still in early- to mid-life than everything you are hearing is due to the change in tube variant (cryo and Gold Pin). Thx.

The Sovteks had around 200 hours on them. I was told they had maybe 100-125 hours on them when I bought the LS16mkII, and I have put at the most maybe 50 Hours on them. Don't get me wrong the LS16mkII with the Sovteks was a set up from the LS15 it replaced, so this improvement is like icing on the cake!
Regards,
Jim

It's great to hear of your success with the cryo-treated EH Gold pins Jim I am not surprised by the level of improvement you found. Btw it should only take 20-30hrs for your tubes to be fully run in. Don't confuse component or cable run in with tubes which take much less time to reach their optimal sound.

Jim...thx for the feedback. Very encouraging to hear. I will check them out. I think my stock 6H30s in my Ref 3 and CD 7 are coming close to the 4000 hr mark, so may be time for me to swap them out. I will try the cryo-treated Gold pins as well. Thx

David..thx for pointing them out. Appreciate the info.

YW Cyril. I don't think you'll be disappointed with the cryo-treated EH 6H-30 Gold Pins, and Cryoset offer excellent customer service.

Cheers,

Interesting posts,
My Ref40 reaches 4,800 hours now. I will need to replace 2x6550 and 10x6H30.
For 6H30, I would like to try that gold pins you wrote about, but no idea for power supply 6550.
In the pre amp chassis, I will need matched quad of 6h30 right? Each matched set per channel.
And do I need matched pair of 6h30 for power supply chassis? Also do 6550 have to be matched pair?
I am totally dump when talk about tubes.
Toga

I know this is an old thread, but I have now moved up to a LS17SE and am still using the EH 6H30 Gold Plate with Cyro Tubes with great success. I bought a new pair and kept the old pair as a back up. FWIW

Regards,
Jim
