Ok friends,
Here's the long due reviews of some of the components I have. I am able to write this due to the fact that CNY is near (coming Thu) and I am helping the family doing spring cleaning. Which also means, I get to clean/dust and do the proper housekeeping on all my hifi gears, records, CD's and files.
1. The Firebird
First, I bought this simply because my dealer "egged" me on as a replacement for the Dr. Feickert Twin. OK, I get to keep the Triplaner arm which I must say its a wonder. Because of vanity and simply because I was offered another "good deal" by the dealer, ended up having an Ortofon 12 inches 309 with the so called "easy to fix and simply plug and play" SPU GM MKII to come along.
Second: The Firebird had a problem I never knew why and even the dealer could not understand. The 78rpm simply will not work as each time this speed is selected, the belt dropped off. Well, finally, I got him to agree to give me a NEW belt to try and know what? Presto, it worked! All 3 speeds. Deadly accurate according to the raven strobe readout. The belt is loose! Simple as that and yet it took months of frustrations and head scratching to find out the root cause. Talking about being stupid (not me ... someone else).
Now to the root of the game - the music. Pride of ownership indeed as I had the Serial Number 3. Wow! What an honour! False pride? Maybe but its always good to know I have the third one off the line. Now the turntable torque is indeed superb, fast in an instant up to speed, whatever the number called for, 33 to 45 to 78 and then back to 33. Never more than a second. And stopping? Like a Ferrari, its just stopped. In an instant. No free wheeling before it comes to a halt. Sound, sound .... very very quiet and musical. Compared to the Twin, this is one step up. I can't for sure know why and how to describe sound, but the music is ever so "smooth". Maybe I am amazed by the "psychoacoustics" playing in my mind, but I am happy and thats what it matters as I just keep on wanting to play records, even though I may not have that luxury of time due to new work assignments that require me to go to UK once every other 2 weeks for a 3 weeks stay. Boring but necessary as work is the basis of funding of this incredible (and expensive, not to mention infectious) hobby.

The Aesthetix Rhea Signature is a wonderful phono stage - why? Because it can take 3 different cartridges and also "remote capable" meaning I can switch at will just by pressing a remote. How cool ... making me that much lazier and growing fatter around the waist. Performance is definitely a notch (or more) above the already excellent Lehmann Decade SE I had before (but then, its was also way much cheaper). If one is looking for a top notch phono stage, this is one you can consider and I will vouch for it. Of course, different blokes, different strokes, so I can't say for sure my taste is the same as yours. But this is one phono stage I will strongly recommend.

Now to the speakers. Ah .... simply musical, big clear sound. Crystal clear, impactful when calls for and certainly very very alluring and imposing. The very size of the horns, 27 inches in diameter will keep you staring at it. Not to mention the very beautiful Palasander woodgrain of the basshorns. Its so different from the speakers I had before. May not be that much better, but surely good enough to keep me from wondering off to another (there are still some speakers out there that had my heart still wondering .... like the Tannoy Westminsters GR for one .... horns, I just love horns these days). Of course the matching wood grain front panel and same make of the pre and power amplifier combo makes music that much sweeter and a picturesque view. I will not go into SS vs tubes as this one combo does not sound like any SS I've heard before. Yes, there are many write up (and I have even heard Kondo and AN UK top tube gears partnering the same speakers) but many times, vanity and looks just pointed that this IS the best combo, for the EYES first (very important a WAF) then to the ears. Seriously, I think (and not too sure but don't think I am far from wrong) SET or tubes DO gives a better and sweeter sound, especially, in the critical midrange. Bass? Who cares, when the basshorns already taken cared by the built in power amplifier.

To Ivan, do please give a listen to the TOP model Trio with 3 sets of matching Basshorns. This could be THE END of your search for the holy grail. I know of someone who had the space and deep pockets in neighbour Malaysia who had this combo supported by the TOP notch AN UK gears and I am not talking about one set of Gaku-On but 2! Thats more than $500,000k of amplifier power (puny in comparison to SS but for sure, not less musical or more ...). At least, even if you don't like it, you have savour this one huge, imposing but equally beautiful looking set of top notch horn speakers.

I hope my simple description of my system is worth the read. I am sorry and I do apologise for not being able to write more, as my wife is nagging me to pick up the brooms, cloth and do the chores of cleaning up. Ok, madame, the slave is coming .... bye guys and thanks for the kind compliments and well wishes. I promise to write more when the CNY holidays gives me the chance to listen in peace my system which I have bought for close to 2 years yet nary a chance to listen to it for more than 3 hours in a session.

Cheers!
