My visit to the "ROOM"

Guys, I did not fall off the edge of the earth! Work got extremely out of hand this past week and I maybe popped in here twice just for a quick look, with no time to post anything.

After the toy tour, we sat down at the kitchen table and was finally able to put several coherent questions together for Ivan. I believe I learned more about audio in that 20 minutes than the past 5 years.

We returned to the room and Ivan put on a clip of the Andretti's with cameras mounted to the car. Those Gotham's in the back really let me know there were expansion joints in the track. What a phenomenal experience! The audio and video transformed the room into an Indy car and I kept grabbing the seat and trying to catch my breath.

Unfortunately, I have come down with a serious case of "Lu-Flu". While I was going to pursue vibration control as my next step, the obvious shortcoming in bass in my system needs immediate attention. After experiencing the bass in the room, I need to take a serious look at this at home. It is a good thing the sale on subs is over or I may have had to order a pair of 112's from Ivan!

Or, power cords, seven is what I would need of various lengths to make a neat install. Thankfully, Laura left the fun money check book at home. On purpose I'm certain!

Finally being able to hear a pair of McIntosh speakers was very enlightening. While the sound was superb, I don't think they are in the cards for me. There was something slightly edgy to me. I've had a sensitivity to metal tweeters for a long time so that may be it. I guess I just prefer the sound of Martin Logan at this point

I realize I'll never be able to make a living as a writer. So, as Dan recommended to me, I write from my heart. Ivan, thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon. The hospitallity you and Donna showed us will be remembered for a long time. While the room was stunning, meeting you and Donna exceeded it by leaps and bounds.

Gordon.......I guess I can call the search off.

There is no doubt about it, THE ROOM is fabulous, and overwhelming. I remember asking Ivan how many hours a day he spent in there, and he said two to three hours everyday, and sometimes more. I thought to myself that two to three hous a day outside the room would be more like it for me.

You don't have to be humble about your writing skills, either. Your excitement, enthusiasm, amazement, and satisfaction from the experience of visiting Ivan and Donna came through perfectly clear. I enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing your visit with us.

I'm sure Ivan can work something out for you! Just go with Gotham's; you will, in the end, find yourself upgrading to them anyhow. You can thank me for all that money you are saving over the long run later.

Gordon, good writeup - being to Mecca sounds like a truly incredible experience.

My present house has no room for a Gotham! Besides, it was built in 1941 and I'm certain it would start huffing and puffing and blow the walls down!

My long term plan is obtaining the Martin Logan CLX. They apparently need some support in the bottom as do the Spire as I obviously discovered after hearing the bass at Ivan's.

I do think I have to clarify a statement I made in part II. The McIntosh speakers were only edgy to me at high spl (124db). Rest of the time they were very smooth to my ears.
