CD's That Won't Play - How Many Do You Have?
In my collection of CD's and SACD's (780), I have five CD's that will play, but will not play all tracks. Sometimes they just stop playing right in the middle of a track, A couple of the discs will allow you to advance to the next track, and go on playing, and some will not advance to the next track, or go back a track. I can hear the laser trying to find readable data, but no go, so I have to remove the disc from the player.
I have inspected these CD's, and there are no visible scratches, scuffs, or visible imperfections that I can see. I always handle all my discs from the center hole and the edge, so no finger prints are on the surface of the discs, and all CD's are returned to their cases as soon as they leave the player. I'm curious to discover if this is a problem others are experiencing. Are there any CD's in your collection that have difficulty playing, or stop mid disc?

I had one disk that was new which had a problem with a few songs. When I put the cd on the table I noticed that the outer edge was not flat against the table. I took the cd back for a new one which plays perfectly. Another option you have is to copy the cd onto your computer in a lossless format and then play the cdr.

I may need to do a little more research. I haven't tried the five CD's in the MCD500 in the studio, or in the Tascam Mastering CD burner in the control room. What is peculiar is these five discs recorded to the hard drive in the MS750 without a hitch. I hope the MCD500 in the main system isn't giving me problems. Every other disc I play reproduces perectly.

Out of hundreds of CDs I have one Led Zeppelin disk that has a skip in it. No surface flaws are visible so it must be a manufacturing issue.

Yesterday I played a new CD, Ann Sweeten - A Place In The Sun in the MCD500 on my main system. Twice in would play fine until half way through track nine, and then just stop. I removed the disc, reinserted it, and it would not play past the middle of track nine. Today I played the CD in the MCD500 in the studio with no problems, so I brought it back up to the main system, played it in the MCD500 there, and it played all the way through with no problems. I played through track nine twice just to see if it would hang, but it did not. Very strange.
