Default MSB Analog - MQA Firmware update now out

Not sure if anyone missed this asI did, it appears MSB has now released the MQA firmware update for their Analog DAC

I have upgraded mine tonight but way too early to tell if there are any improvements, in fact I was wondering just before how i would ever tell when my DAC already sounded perfect. What I can say is my DAC certainly does not sound worse for it

Hope this helps and all feedback welcome, please do share your experience with this update if you have it installed

Regards

Essjay

MQA on the Select II sounds amazing. Looking forward how well they executed MQA on the Analog DAC.

I’ve had the MQA module in my Analog DAC for about a week now. Still sampling MQA files at the moment. So far some files simply sound good; others are extraordinary.

Also, the module improves sound quality on all file types. Hence, even read-book playback has improved considerably.

How does the really well mastered MQA content compare to really well mastered DSD?

Difficult to say. I don’t have DSD and MQA files from the same master. However, the one thing both file types have in common is a great reproduction of space. At the moment DSD appears a bit more organic and relaxed than the MQA files I’ve listened to so far. Still early days for my experience with MQA.

Though I must say that listening to Coltrane, Naima, MQA unfolded to 24/192 renders his sax as the most realistic reproduction that I have yet experienced.

I must say that my above comments are based on the best MQA and DSD files I’ve heard, not the mediocre ones.
