Arrow Home Demoing Rega Apollo-R & Rega DAC

Hey Guys. The local shop let me take something home for the weekend, Rega's Apollo-R CD player and Rega DAC. I Just hooked them up. I will play around with connections as I go. Need to read a little more and see what's up with each one. Here are some pics.

Me, too.

I've heard both playing through a Naim integrated while auditioning Spendor / ProAc speakers. At that time the only thing I compared the DAC with was the Cambridge DACMagic. Blew that away. Exactly the difference they were hoping, wanting me to hear. When I congratulated them on their up selling technique, we all had a chuckle.

I did like it, though.

Cyril & Pider... So far everything sounds very nice. My wife also thinks it sounds great. My problem is I have had very little experience with cd players and dacs. I really want to demo the AMR CD-777.

Jeff...congrats and nice pix. The player and dac mate well with each other and will get better with each disc. Enjoy and I look forward to reading your impressions and more pix.

Jeff,

Although the Rega Dac could sound better than my MDA1000 on the PMC EB1i depending on the recordings, it is far behind the MDA when played on the Wilson WP8's. The transparency of the Wilsons put in very heavy light all the weaknesses of the Rega dac compared to the high end Mc.
Synergy is the key.
Would I have still the PMC in my system, I would still have the Rega Dac on duty on some recordings but I just put it for sale.
Curious to hear your impressions though.
My guess is that the 201 is much better, even on the PMC speakers.

How does it sound compared to the Emotiva? I would think better in many ways?

Jerome... Thanks for your input. Right now I want to try out some other cd/dac combos. I also like the idea of getting a cd only player and then trying various DACS with it. I might see if I can get an MCD500 to home demo and like I stated earlier I am hoping to try the AMR out at home. I know Jeff at A/V Solutions sells AMR. I don't know if anyone locally does.
