Heard them at the recent Florida Audio Show with the new Levinson integrated and honestly was shocked at how big of a sound stage they produced. I was a long time owner of L100T3s and 250Tis and these produced a much warmer and larger sound stage than anything I ever owned from them. Would strongly consider these for my second system.

I just built a second system with these JBLs and I will share my impressions shortly regarding the McIntosh MA252 as driver. I bought them largely for nostalgia, but the L100 Classic is definitely not my fatherís Century 100 from the Ď70s. I am still trying to reconcile my preconceptions with the reality of this speakerís unexpected strengths.

Will be interested in your results. I auditioned the MA252 with a pair of Harbeth 30.2 speakers and found the pair to be very musical with jazz, blues & rock, but congested with complex orchestral passages. Left me wondering if it was the speakers, the amp or the combination.

No you are correct. I call it lack of resolution and it is the the amplifier that cannot resolve detail in complex orchestral passages. MA252 is extremely good within limitations but does not punch above its weight. Thatís when people become disappointed.

How are you liking your L100's?

The L100 Classic is a really good speaker but likely too expensive for those who are looking for a "bookshelf" mid-fi speaker, and w/o audiophile bona fides for those looking for a smaller floor standing monitor. The L100 Classic has great presence, detail, veracity to the source, and very good soundstage. The bass is well defined if not as deep as one might expect from its 12" woofer and its storied history. The crossover is clearly more sophisticated than the original offering a seamless coherence across the drivers. Treble is not harsh or beamy. The speakers work well on the optional stands that tilts back 20 degrees likely improving the time coherence of the tweeter in relation to the other drivers. Overall the reborn L100 has to be heard (w/ good electronics) to be appreciated for more than a rehash of a '70s audio icon. Unfortunately it occupies something of an orphan niche IMHO. It will provide its best with high end electronics but those with such means will likely pass on it w/o even an audition, and it is too expensive for the majority of those looking to pair it with a mid-fi receiver. However, if the opportunity presents itself a listen to the L100 Classic is sure to challenge preconceptions.

Thanks. I think I'm leaning toward getting a pair of these in the next week or so.
Lots of people seem to like them even if their feedback about them varies - which might make some sense with hearing them in different systems.

I’m looking for a room for a second system now! If I find it these JBLs will be a thought for sure. Then again ... maybe I shouldn’t push my luck as my wife gave me one room already.
