Is it even safe to be running the banana into the hole like you would bare wire ? I'm using nordost red dawn speaker cables. speaker ends fit fully proper. mc 452 end goes in halfway. Would i be getting more omph from the amp if i put the speaker cable in to the holes and locking down on them?

Is it possible to remove the mcintosh mc 452 binding post and replace with another one from another company?

You can put the banana plugs into the large holes and lock them down. You do risk damaging (crushing) the banana connectors on the cable, so a little care is needed.

You can replace the McIntosh connectors with something like WBT - that's what McIntosh used to use anyway. Then you would have a modified product with potentially diminished resale value and you'd probably void the warranty as well.

A better approach would be to re-terminate your Nordost cables with spades on the amplifier end. People do it all the time. Besides, spades make for a tighter, more secure connection than bananas.

I had the same setup a while back and could only get the banana plugs in halfway as well.

Upon, listening I did not hear anything concerning despite not fully inserted as one would like.

Like Tom said, they should be able to be re-terminated, contact Nordost for termination instruction or if you can apply that expense towards a pair of Frey 2s and trade in your current cables. Nordost does this with two models up the line.

Let us know what you decide.
