I just keep thinking of Steve Martin in The Jerk having one honking PRaT system as he does his level best to keep up.

Yes, PRat = Pace, Rhythm, and Timing.

When I listen to my system, I unconsciously start tapping my toes in reaction to the music. Not all systems -- even ones that sound really good -- have that effect. Naim Audio is renowned for it.

PC is right, With the combo of Rega, Dynavector, Naim, Dynaudio, and REL I have pieced together system of components that are all very neutral and very fast, resulting in great PRaT. If you want a single system for all kinds of music, this is a good approach to take.

Yep, and I knew things were on the right track for my friend Rob when he started literally tapping his toes while listening to the Illinois Jacquet "Swing's the Thing" LP!

Do DACs have a PRaT signature?

What a great LP. I bought it on your recommendation I think and its absolutely a joy to listen to.
I missed your original post. Its so good to get system synergy. That point when everything just sounds right!

I too am nearing that point. Still need to complete the preamp purchase but once that done with I think there will be very few if any upgrades in the near future.

I get it that you are keeping the Bifrost as your main DAC.
Reading your post Illinois Jacquet back on its way to the spinner.

Enjoy the music,

PC...does that mean you have a Hydra 4 now? I've had my eye out for one; hard to come across, so keep me in mind.

Hi CD,
Yes, I have a Hydra 4 now. I will probably have to get a Hydra 6 simply because with the Bifrost DAC and the new phono stage on the way I will need more outlets, but I'll never part with the Hydra 4. It will get used as a power distributor for the Macbook music server, the Rega's TT-PSU box, the Concept TT, and probably my vintage, modded Dynaco FM3 tuner I ever get that installed. If nothing else, it will end up on the HD TV system where it makes a visible improvement on everything....

Oh sure; the rich get richer. A Hydra 10?
