From the press release on 800.

"At the other end of the tonal scale, bass performance has also improved with the introduction of a new dual
magnet motor system, which utilises powerful neodymium magnets. This innovative design improves the
linearity of the bass drivers’ performance, therefore reducing harmonic distortion. "

That may have been the problem with the outgoing 800D not enough control over the woofer resulting in often flabby bass unless driven by an absolute brute of an amp with excellent damping characteristics. I really hope the bass improves in the new 800 as it was a very good speaker otherwise.

Why is it named as 800D (D=Diamond?)

Does it mean it will "bling, bling" when the high frequencies are being played? Kinda like my ex-Acapella High Violon MkIV plasma tweeter?

All of the top of the line B&W's will have diamond tweeters with the new series. That is what the D meant on the 800, 801 and 802's. They are adding them to the 4 and 5's too.

I love the piano black finish. Now if there not too crazy on there prices. I would love to compare the new 800D to the Wilson Sasha.

801D is History!

A number of speakers have been removed from the previous 800 Series in this new slimmed down range, including the 801D and any dedicated rear channel speakers. The latter because customers usually chose 805s over these options.

I do too. I was never a fan of the black wood they used, but I do like the black gloss.

My understanding is the only 800 series to go is the 801D. The rest are all modified and now have the diamond tweeter. All the 800 will now be made in the UK, other series could be from China or ...
