Default New Listening Room Design

Hello!

We have been in our new home since 1 year now and I told wifey that the corner I have for a listening room in the basement does meet my needs. I was able to convince her to knock down a wall and frame another one to achieve what I built in my previous house. Basically it will be about 90% identical in shape and size.

I made a sketch using AutoCAD so that you can see how it's going to be implemented.

On the first picture, this is my actual setup. On the second picture is what I want to recreate. I wish to have the amplifier alone between the speakers as shown in the second picture except that according to the space available the audio rack would be on the left, a bit in front of my speakers but not interfering.

I would like to know if this can be detrimental to the point it is better to be avoided. Actually, I want the front to be the least busy as possible as this room will also be used for watching movies. Also, moving a second rack away will allow me to easily integrate a Shunyata power conditionner. I plan to upgrade the audio rack/stand to Solid Tech Rack of Silence for both style and performance.

Suggestions welcomed.

Thanks!

That looks like a very clean and best possible solution in the space. I have my amps between my speakers and while I've not had it any other way in this room, from everyone I've spoken with, it isn't a detriment. Enjoy in good health!

You will want to keep the speakers out some from the corners and likely put bass traps behind them for the best sound. Perhaps some 1st reflection points treatment on the walls and ceiling, as well as a rug.

As you don't appear to have vinyl you could place your gear next to each other below the screen and keep the cable runs short (shorter is better) and access all via remotes, which won't work if you are using your CA-2010.

Thanks for the advices.
In my listening room from my previous house, I could not install corner bass traps as the entry door was just in front of the left speakers. I had to tip toe around the speaker to not knock it down. I never liked it because when people were coming over it was easy from them to hit it if they were not careful. The door now will be far away from the speakers so there are no reason to go close to them when entering the room. There is a steel post just when I draw the doors so it's the closest to the speakers it can be unless I move the door on the left side of the post, which I will not do. Doing so will allow room for the audio rack on the left wall.

Actually the photo with my Yamaha amplifier is from my former house. I know used the Audio Research DSi200 as shown in the other picture. This is an integrated amplifier so if it sits alone in the middle it's perfect. I will only need a long run of XLR cable (about 5.5M) to connect the amplifier to the DAC. I prefer a minimalist approach; I don't like how it looks with all the wires on sight. I didn't even add a Shunyata conditionner, nor TV box yet. So even more clutter.

Right now I am at the planning stage to see if what I have in mind can work together. But it's a good thing to already start thinking about room treatment which at first I told myself I would wait but I can plan ahead. Room acoustics once done will dictate what is actually needed for optimal sound to my room.

Serge… Pro tip; install Stillpoints Ultra SS feet under your speaker stands. The audible improvement is nothing short of Astonishing.

I have an AA Super Sale going on right now, and have all the proper adapters in stock as well.

It will be most profound improvement you ever heard. Shipping to you in Canada is also a breeze.

Drop me a line if you have an interest.

PS: they are flat on the bottom, and will not so much as mar your wood floor.
