I have a Denon 3910 that was sent in for the "Ultimate Mod" from Underwood HiFi a number of years ago. I installed Siemens CCa tubes. It sounds wonderful and has performed very well for me. With all of the options that are available now, I would simply purchase a Oppo BDP95 and be done with it, or a really good transport and but the Wyred DAC2. My Denon is nice and still performs wonderfully, but the money could have been spent better on other gear.

After a few rounds of 'what if', I have to agree.

Round 1 of what if. Sell the HTS 7.1 and go with an Anthem D2 or D2V. Now I have HDMI and AES/EBU. So I can make use of the OPPO's dual HDMI outputs, and gain the ability to play Blu_ray discs. Way more bang for the buck. Might even step up to one of the Upgrade companies modded 95's.

This also gets an AES/EBU digital input, which is the preferred output on the music server.

About a week ago me& my father go to his friends house. He always finds good items and he had a denon dvd-3910. I looked closely and on the back it had many upgraded parts& a sticker which said parts connection mod. We bought it & took it home. I researched it and it turns out i had bought a Denon Dvd-3910 Ultimate Mod with the tube output! We purchased it for about 100 dollars from him. It works flawlessly and i havnt heard my stereo sound as good as this! This player completely changed the sound, i am loving it. I still havnt told my dad about it because im afraid hed take it away for his system.

How old is your Dennon player? I can't speak to the value or performance of this mod. However I would hesitate to spend a large sum of money knowing the laser has a finite life span. Will you be able to have the drive replaced and at what cost on top of the mod. Is it worthwhile in the long run?

Default Can you hear the difference?

I'm wondering how many audiophiles could select the modified player in a double blind test; my guess it would be less than 50%.

It seems like an insane amount of $ to spend, but then apparently some have that option. I sure don't, and if I did I'd spend it on speaker upgrades.

I know this thread is old, but I am stunned that you got that player for such a great deal. I spent a bucket of money on mine.....
