Default I think I'm losing my mind.............

So, I sent all of my 3000 CD's home from the ship and ripped them all to my Olive 4HD; which really never got any serious play. I also no have no internet access for it through our LAN, so I am missing lots of nice features. For the first couple of weeks, I was really unimpressed with the sound fed through my Bryston BDA-1 compared to the Esoteric DV-60/Reimyo DAP 999 combination used for the last 3 years. But over the last 4 days, the sound has dramatically improved! Fluid, clear, and rich - I am so impressed! I think it may be a combination of both units being broken in, but I do tend to believe it is probably more the Bryston reaching it's potential. If anyone else has had this experience with Olive, I would really like to know, though. I have a 6HD at home that I have yet to really try. Based on the sound, the BDP-2 and BDA-2 are definitely in my future! I am also eager to hear the new transport. I have had Bryston gear mixed with much more expensive gear throughout the last 20 years, and I am never disappointed and always amazed at how good it sounds, especially compared to pieces that are much, much more expensive!

I can't remember if there was much of a break-in period when I owned a 4HD. At one point or another I had at least one of the outputs of the Olive running thru the MCD-500, MCD-1100, Esoteric D-07, and Wadia Series 9.

It took several months of ripping and then shipping from the naval base in Bahrain took some serious money and time, too!

Gary.......On average it takes me about six minutes to rip a CD in .WAV format to the Olive 04HD hard drive, so 3,000 CD's would be approximately 18,000 minutes plus the additional time to load and then store each disc between rips. 18,000 minutes is 300 hours. If you faithfully stayed with the ripping process for eight hours a day, it would take you 37.5 days to rip 3,000 CD's.

...when you rip that many cd's...it is highly recommended to take backups. I'm using two external WD USB3 drives that I keep at different locations. It has taken me about 7 months to rip about 2.500 cd's with the Weiss MAN301 and store them on a Synology NAS...hard drives do fail, and the thought of ripping them all again is a scary one.
Enjoy your music collection in good health...I'm having a blast with mine :-)

That's true, except most people have more to do than purely hang around a computer and rip cds.

I'm very impressed that it was done in only several months.

About four years ago, I ripped about 2000 cds and it took me almost a year fitting it into my daily life.

Well, being at sea gives one lots of spare time. I probably spent 4 or 5 hours a day doing this.
