The first 20 are on a top-100 disc list out of a rather large collection for me here.

Numerous friends, vinyl junkies among them, have heard them here and swear they are the most amazing discs they have heard (as do I) and various people they could not hear anything that could be done better by vinyl.
I agree.

I was wondering why Elusive Disc had not completed the Audio Wave Blue Note series. Never occured to me it would be related to the Fukushima quake.

Oh, good, its good to know they've been let know that folks want them to finish the series. I was concerned that Blue Note had pulled the plug on them. Maybe I should start pinging them, too.

Good point about the loudness issue - I had come across references to that in my readings and it was certainly disappointing. The whole issue of particular pressings/remasters, remastered from analog source vs digital, remixing, etc certainly add to the headaches of thinking about content.

Used to be I heard a song on the radio, went to the record store, took a look st the album, and bought it. Brought it home and put it on the stereo and that was pretty much it. If i liked it, I made a tape recording on a TDK so I could play it on my walkman when mowing lawns.
:
I just picked $6,000 to match the expense of my digital source. If I can get close for 1/10 the price, imagine what happens if I match!

On the loudness issue--best source for intel is the Dynamic Range Data Base. My MO is to pick the release with the highest range, then order off of Discogs

True that on the cassettes, though I was a Maxell guy--can't beat the poster with the music blowing back the guy's hair, tie, martini, haha

I just had an LC-3 delivered today, actually, most likely because of some sort of subconscious implant from that very ad!!

I personally would not neglect DSD, as there are some wonderfully mastered DSD recordings both from orginal master tapes and direct to DSD with an all DSD chain. Check out https://www.nativedsd.com/

Just pulled the trigger on this dac after a long demo at home. Really pleasant sound without digital glare. https://www.aquahifi.com/la_scala.html
